If you are in Toronto and looking for a Mexican place with a cool vibe, an old school hip hop sound track and delicious food, then look no further than La Carnita. Its mouthwatering tacos and underground decor will blow your mind away.
La Carnita is a Mexican bar-restaurant that celebrates street food and art. There are various locations in town but the one in John’s street is one of the most popular ones. In fact, thanks to its strategic location, this two-floor storey fills up quickly with downtown diners, tourists and hipsters.
The atmosphere is laid back, yet lively at the same time with an awesome hip hop soundtrack. The decor is cool, funky and underground with wall graffitis and neon lightnings.
The menu is short and offers a handful of shareable appetizers such as nachos & salsa, corn, BBQ chicken wings, etc. The main attraction though are the tacos. Food is delicious, well prepared and reasonably priced.
To start, we shared the tortilla chips with 3 dips made of guacamole, spicy bean & smoked queso, and corn salsa. The nachos portion was really generous and all three dips were delicious and flavourful. It definitely was a great dish to start with and share.
I would have loved to try more tacos or even dessert. Unfortunately, my stomach was more than satisfied after the awesome dishes it just had.
However, I highly recommend you sample as many tacos as you can. All the tacos look mouthwatering. If you are planning to visit for dinner, I strongly advise that you make a reservation as the place gets very busy, especially during weekends.
