Montreal is a fabulous city for gastronomy. It has a generous array of restaurants to fit your needs depending on the budget or mood you’re in. There are simply too many restaurants to choose from but we decided to give a try to Les 400 Coups as we were looking for something upscale, refined and fancy.
The first impressions I had when entering the restaurant was “wow”. The place was beautiful, pretty posh, yet cosy and chilled at the same time due to the soft lighting. The menu was short offering a few starters and main dishes. We decided to share the starters but eventually ended up sharing the main dishes as well.
As main dish, we shared the guinea fowl and suckling pig which were both truly outstanding. I had a real crush on the second dish, which came in as a surprise. The pig was nicely associated to a scallop sauce which were tasting very nicely together. I felt like I was having a flavour party in my palate.
Service was fair, the waiters knew their menu. Even though the restaurant was very busy, they were available and willing to help.
Food is priced rather on the high end but it is totally worth it as you get a true culinary experience. Next time I visit, I would most likely take their 5 course menu at CA$ 75 though. You can add an extra CAD 45 for the wine pairing. If you opt for the menu, make sure you are very hungry though as portions are generous.
